6th of the best!

Many congratulations to Paul on finishing a creditable 6th in the British Seniors U65 and thanks very much for the daily posts which I, and I know others, have thoroughly enjoyed.  Here is his final instalment.

Got away with a draw in the last round when Steve Berry missed a couple of chances. A decisive game would have gained one of us =3rd prize. My first round ‘Swiss Gambit’ did not work as I had to play the first and third seeds in the last two rounds. Ken Norman drew his final game v Friedgood and won the title with 6/7. Stewart Reuben was second with 5.5. David Friedgood, Geoffrey James and Ivan Myall were =3rd with 5. I was =6th with 5 others on 4.5. 37 played.

On Sunday I play eleven rounds in the British Blitz Championship (only two GMs entered so far in a field of 53). 3 minutes + 2 second increment per game. On Monday I start a 5-round morning tournament so that I can watch the British and go to the commentary room in the afternoons.
