Great result for the team against fairly strong opponents. Guiseppe finished first, crowning an aggressive game with a lovely fork of Queen and Rook, winning soon afterwards.

Peter H followed shortly behind after winning a lot of space and finishing his opponent off in quick time.

Peter G had a solid game, which looked fairly well balanced until his opponent ran out of time, though possibly in a losing position. Apparently the new time rules have caused some confusion about when the extra 10 minutes is added.

Nigel had a restrained game, but succeeded in winning a pawn, though his opponent was able to find enough resources to squeeze out a draw.

My game was interesting. Guiseppe and I can play on B1 or B2, as our grades are very close.  Before the game I asked him if he wanted to play B1 and be ritually disembowelled by Chris Ross, but he opted to leave that honour to me. I put up reasonable resistance for a long time, but eventually got worn down by his two bishops and a fairly static position. That cost me a Pawn, but left some chances for my Rooks to cause hassles on the first and second ranks. Eventually, with opposite Bishops, a Rook each and only a couple of minutes left on our clocks, Chris decided there wasn’t a win in the time available, so he agreed a draw. Komodo agreed that the position was totally equal. So a great result for me, as he is the strongest player I’ve ever played, if you exclude a draw in a simultaneous game against the American GM Larry Evans.

Could be that the result propels the team to first place again in the Division, at least until Luton play their next match! (I think they won last night Gerry! – Ed)
