Star of the show was Abigail, with a tremendous win against Callum on top board. With only seconds left on the clock, she broke through Callum’s defence and chased his king across the board to give mate.
Peter and I were both under the weather and agreed an early draw. The was very gracious on his part, as he had the better position.
Andy was well on top against Alex and gained two pawns. However, Alex fought back well to obtain an opposite-coloured bishops endgame and secure a draw.
Shivad had more of the play against Steve but was unable to find a way to break through Steve’s defence.
Jamie Rigden, making his debut at this level, was up against the vastly experienced Richard. He defended well for a long time but eventually succumbed to Richard’s attack. He showed a lot of promise and should do well over the season.
Overall, the D Team will be very happy with their performance. The C Team, less so.
