A great result for the team, if you exclude my pathetic contribution, and hopefully we’re now back on track. The results in Division 2 have been erratic so far and it’s not easy to identify a likely winning team, though there’s still a long way to go. So far every team has been on the receiving end of a loss and it’s interesting times. MK C defeated a strong OU team last time out, so our result bodes well for the future.
As for the games, they all started well and looked tricky from early on. Peter G had a complex position, but then he was able to take his opponent’s main defender with check and mate followed soon after.
Both Nigel and Peter H had complicated games, in which they had a lot of space which finally resulted in material gain and they both finished their opponents off in cavalier fashion.
Then my game. It was fairly unexciting throughout and we reached a totally drawn position. Drawn that is if you don’t allow your opponent to mate you by your making a totally stupid move. I duly did, and spoiled the team’s possibility of a whitewash.
Guiseppe had a difficult position, with two Pawns for the exchange up (down?). As the game progressed, it reached a position where his opponent came within a whisker of losing on time (can you believe it!), but lost by mate instead. A great finish, to cap a fine team result (self excluded).
