A creditable display by the D team against a considerably stronger side. All five games were won by the white pieces.

Let’s start with the losses. Mac, heavily outgraded, dropped a minor piece early on and was the first to succumb. I had my standard grotty looking but solid position, then unnecessarily lost a pawn. Chris played the endgame well and the result the inevitable one. Tony looked to be doing fine, but lost a rook in a complicated position and it was all over.

Qais’s opponent was, according to Qais, forced to sac a piece for a couple of pawns. An exciting game followed, with Qais just managing to keep his opponent’s advancing pawns under control.

Ben won a pawn in the opening, then another later on, to secure a solid victory.
