Cordon Trophy 2021

A long break from Over The Board team chess for many came to a very welcome end last night. Bedford club hosted the 2021 Cordon Trophy. Eight teams of four from Bedford (4), Leighton Buzzard (2), Open University and Milton Keynes competed for the coveted trophy. Adrian Elwin controlled the chaos with consummate ease as ever, and a good time was had by all!

Despite Richard Bodily’s strategy of not returning the trophy that Bedford had won in 2019(!), there was to be no retension with Leighton Buzzard A comfortably winning the spoils with an impressive 12.5/16.

Bedford A were second with 11, narrowly edging Milton Keynes into third with 10.5.

Bedford D scored 8, Bedford B 7 and Bedford C 4, in a highly competitive tournament featuring a number of debuts for Bedford players which is encouraging for the coming season.

Detailed results will appear on the county website in due course.

Good to get back to the board!
