Neil Hickman, who joined in 1974 (?), has left the club as he in retiring to Norfolk. In a brief presentation last night, club secretary Peter Gill remembered Neil’s contribution to the club, both in chess terms and the offices he has held. He also handed over a card signed by members and, the gift money cannot buy, life time country membership of the club.
I cannot be as eloquent as Peter but for myself, aside from missing the titanic struggles at the board and the pithy one liners (“a Russian proverb comes to mind” just last night during my endgame suffering), I would very much like to thank him for all his contributions to this website and hope that they will continue from the Fens.

Sorry to see Neil leaving, but I hope he is able to find a decent set of opponents in the wilderness of Norfolk! Many thanks for some “interesting” encounters over the years and best wishes!
