(not just the board the right way round, it’s the correct final position )
Yesterday saw the first game of the 2016 world chess championship taking place in New York City between the current champion Magnus Carlsen and the challenger Sergey Karjakin. Game 1 ended in a draw after a surprise Trumpowsky by Carlsen. Karjakin coped well with the early departure from established theory and never looked too troubled.
Some options for following:-
- official site – www.nyc2016.fide.com – if you can bring yourself to agree to the scary terms of use! It appears to have all sorts of exciting “options” but I’m not convinced
- chess 24 – very good for live coverage www.chess24.com/en/watch/live-tournaments/carlsen-karjakin-world-chess-championship-2016 of the moves and match reports e.g. www.chess24.com/en/read/news/carlsen-karjakin-game-1-trumpowsky-draw
- chessbomb – www.chessbomb.com – not my cup of tea but it has its fans
- various other places for live coverage and countless utube post-match analysis – I like Danny King on PowerPlayChess –www.youtube.com/user/PowerPlayChess and chess.com does some good stuff www.youtube.com/user/wwwChesscom
Please share other options in the comments below and I will include them in the list.
Let’s hope the next game is less drawish than the first two.
Susan Polgar did a workmanlike job of annotating Game 1, with no obvious signs of plagiarism:
