On bd 1, my opponent traded some pieces early on which allowed me to equalize quite comfortably although it wasn’t that clear how I could conjure up some winning chances. W then traded some more bits, allowing me an ending of R,B+6 V R,N+6 so, if nothing else, I could grind away in various B for N endings.

W then, rather obligingly, allowed me a cheapo to win a pawn before, equally obligingly, trading the minor pieces followed by the rooks. I’ve never really liked K & P endings and don’t seem to get that many but this one was fairly simple and was duly converted.

On bd 2, B played a fairly iffy opening allowing James to build a dominating looking pawn centre. After 15 or so moves, James won / B lost a piece and the game followed not long afterwards.

On Bd 3, Peter Montgomery probably put up the most resistance, in the last game to finish, but when I saw Ramsey had pawns on f3, g4 and h5 Vs f2 & h2 I assumed he’d probably manage to win which he duly did.

Nick’s game & comments on bd4 will follow by Whatsapp.

On bd 5, Alex was the first to finish. Apparently, he whipped up a fairly devastating attack quite early on and his opponent never really got into the game before it was all over 🙂-

Next up, Luton A on 24th March.
