As part of the general call for games of the year, Gerry has nominated a new category and submitted a game for it! (Typically (?), it involves that recently departed Hickman bloke! )

Nf3 d6 3. e4 {Haven't played an e4 game as White for years, but it  looked interesting.} Bg7 4. c3 Nd7 5. Be3 e5 6. Bc4 Ne7 {All fairly routine up  to here, but this is very problematic move that should have caused all sorts  of problems for Black.} 7. Bxf7+ Kxf7 8. Ng5+ Kf6 {I'd expected Kg8, after  which Ne6 causes all sorts of mayhem.} 9. Qb3 {THe beginning of a sequence of  poor moves - I hadn't seen Qg8, which would have nullified most of my  advantage. Qf3+ was a much better option.} d5 10. exd5 Qg8 11. Ne4+ Kf5 {  Very bold. Now he's threatening my Knight.} 12. Ng3+ {I hadn't noticed that if  I play g4} (12. g4+ Kxe4 (12... Kxg4 13. Qd1+ Kh3 14. Qf3+ Kh4 15. Bg5#) 13.  Nd2+ Kd3 14. c4# {taking the Knight is impossible, so he'd have to take the  g-pawn, which loses anyway.}) 12... Kf6 13. Ne4+ Kf5 {Drawn by repetition -  well at least I saved my Knight!} 1/2-1/2
